This beach here is long and gently shelving. In light winds the water is generally flat and is quit
e good for beginners and intermediates trying to crack that elusive carve gybe.
As the wind picks up so does the choppiness.
In a good blow (above a F6) big waves can be generated, and some good wave sailing is to be had, particularly when the wind is blowing SSW giving cross shore conditions.
Beware however there is a slight rip - not as stong as that running through the Menai Straights (and still felt as far out as Dinas Dinelle) - but it's there all the same.
Ideal Wind Direction: NW-SSW.
How to get there: From Porthmadog, head south along the coastal road, into Morfa Bychan. Turn left in the village and the road should lead you to the beach (quite a way).
Parking: Car park on the beach.
Suitable For: Everyone depending on conditions.
Water Quality:
Accommodation: Hotels and B&B's in Porthmadog and the surrounding area.
Amenities: Noe other than ICe cream/Htdog vendors and then only during the summer.
Tourist Information: 01766 512981.
