Image Windsurfing Weekend 10&11th May 2008 As part of national windsurfing week. Well the wind didn't blow - but what a fantastic weekend anyway! Around 70 people showed up across the weekend with lots of new faces, new to windsurfing or just new to the club. The sun shone and the rain (mostly) stayed away, great weather for the families picnicking, the evening barbecue and the beginners just starting out on the obsession of windsurfing. With the lake like a millpond at times - paddle racing was the order of the day. A hotly contested head to head knock-out won by Andy from Hollingworth Watersports. Young Danny picked up a prize in the spirit of NWW, the most enthusiastic windsurfer of the weekend - he was on the water at 9am Sunday while most of us were still recovering from the night before. Saturday evening saw live music from "Reservoir Dogs" and a great light show to go with it. As night fell the crew from Hollingworth lit up with a bit of fire juggling and fire breathing. A big thanks to everyone who came and joined in, special thanks to Chas and the rest of the band.

Our next North West event is at West Kirby Marine Lake on Sunday 9th September. Full details on the website www.nwwa.org.uk This is a joint event with the RYA Team15 junior race event which is being run by Mike Roberts. I urge all those with a raceboard to come down and show these youngsters that age and experience can overcome youth and enthusiasm! We will not make much of an impression if only the usual 6 old gits (and I include myself in that description) turn up. There is another side to poor turnouts – we cannot continue without your support - “Use it or lose it!” It would be a shame to see the North West Region cease to exist just as there appears to be a glimmer of hope of a longboard resurgence with manufacturers starting to test the water with some interesting products. I hope to see many of you there – if you aren’t racing why not come along and sail there anyway? Regards, Geoff
