It seems the council haven't really given any thought outside of the hotel plans.
Maybe the money would have been better spent promoting the town as a sailing venue? And updating the existing facilities to accomodate visitors who would be spending their money......

Perhaps I'm using rose-tinted specs.

just got back from Wirral council meeting. I'll post more about it tomorrow but I need some wine first! It does seem that it's (the reduced use of car park for license holders) and increased public pay and display is likely, many of the councillors supported this and didn't seem to understand its consequences to lake users. They also didn't see a difference between lake users and the sailing school, this was assisted further by the current school manager (a council employee and beneficary of the new school building) supporting the suggestion that this mixed use of the car park, would cause no problems. After all windsurfers only use the car park in bad weather and the public would only use this in good weather (even if the Dee Lane car parking provision was several reduced.

What a complete waste of time. You can forget the 30 spots in 9m+ tides. We all know we have to retreat back from the railings in anything over 9m. The whole car park is flooded on big spring tides of 10m+

The 30 spots might as well be placed out at Hilbre for what they are worth.

my 2cents worth
cheers
H

30 spaces wont be enough! on a good forecast we plan to run freestyle events (www.freestyl_expression_.co.uk) in the lake, hopefully getting 20-30 people up. The times they will be run will be when its really windy, so the Ultimate speedies will be there too, and the local sailors. Making the car park this much smaller will make it impossible to hold any kind of event there!! Gutted!!

Also...spaces too small for vans. Quite a few sailors will be in demo vans at our events so this would a little annoying if they didnt fit in the spaces!
