Newby from North West ! 12 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
Hey guys !

I am a newby from the northwest, just sat my level 2 but need loads more water time. I'm on the look out for some venue advice or clubs anyone can recommend, I'm based in Stockport. My usual windsurfing buddy works shifts so i'm quite restricted as to when I can go out unless i want to go out on my own (which i'd rather not do)

I've done loads of sports in the past but nothing like windsurfing it is awesome i'm hooked !!

hope you can help

Ahh yes - that well known surf mecca of Stockport - I'm in Heaton Norris!
West Kirby is definately the best venue within easy reach for you, with the added benefit of good clean wind and not too deep water which is not too bumpy.

West Penine sailing club is also another option, and might possibly be a bit better on the social scene once you know people there - but it takes about the same time to get there as West Kirby, but the winds a lot gustier usually.

Also - you should try going there on your own - once you've done it a few times its a lot less intimidating, and you'll get to spend much more time on the water - and they're a nice chatty bunch you meet in the carpark at West Kirby, so you'll never be short of someone to ask for advice, or just general banter.

Just had to jump in to defend West Pennine. Being another windsurfer from the hidden gem of the windsurf world... Stockport!!! I was a member at West Kirby for a number of years and now a member at West Pennine. Cannot fault WK for venue as long as there's a westerly or southerly in the forcast... as Shawn says its pretty perfect, but at WP you can sail in pretty much any direction, as long as it is not dead northerly. The conditions are pretty good for an inland location (check out youtube to see how good it can be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUGJLq5Qqi0). In SW, W, NW and E, the wind is pretty consistant. WP is a lot closer for me (40 mins to WP and 1.15 hrs to WK) from Offerton. £10 a month membership is a bargain price too for unlimited access 27/7! WP is definately kinder to your kit too! Another factor for me now is WP is 54 miles round trip away & WK is 110! Big saving on juice! I think we should have a Stockport raid on Audenshaw reservour anyway, as I think that could be a cracking local venue. It is strictly off limits according to United Utilities though... shame.
