As many of you are aware on several occasions we have debated the re-development of the lake facilities in West Kirby. It seems that the latest 'moves' have some real momentum behind them....

The specification 'The Sail' includes improved modern sailing school facilities

The brief inviting interest from developers / investors to deliver a new complex on the sailing school site was issued before Christmas.

The deadline for initial expression of interest is 27th Jan.

By the end of Feb the council expect to have selected a short list of 4 or 5 of the best submissions with a view to full and detailed bids for presentation in April.

The expectation is to have identified a development partner by June latest.

Is it just me, or does that actually look like it might be quite good??? I was worried that whatever they put up would create flukey wind conditions......Or do you think that it would effect the lake fees/ would posh people having sophisticated and romantic dinners tolerate the sight of bare arsed windsurfers chasing their underpants across the car park on a force 7 getting changed after the changing rooms have closed? (sounds unlikely but I have had to do that a couple of times, luckily it was a bit dark at the time so there were no formal complaints!

If the lake as a venue is'nt effected by any of this, its sounds all good. I guess we have to keep improving things at every opertunity otherwise things would stagnate.

Cheers

Why not extend the lake further into the eastury, to about twice the current width, this would attract many more vistitors

yes it would and this was an option some time ago,but I doubt if private interests would stand the cost. I think it would be down to the council but once they have off loaded the running of the facility why should they? As to the sailing cost, I am sure it will go up but at least we will have better changing rooms etc. and it will be run properly as it would be run on a business level ie. catching the people who forget to pay!!! in the wrong way etc.etc.all of these things loose money = LESS PROFIT!!!
