Whitstable is suitable for all sailing abilities and as such offers a wide variety of conditions cov
ering many wind directions and states of the tide. It's at it's best in SW to NW and NE to SE. For a couple hours before and after high tide, a strip of water known as 'the street' gives an area for speed freaks to ply their trade in North Westerly winds. This area is also popluar for beginners when the wind is not so good. Higher tides can produce good jumping conditionin the swell. Keynes Yard to the west can be good especially if the wind is SW The local club has a bar, hot showers and board storage.
Membership is around 60 per annum. Launch from the beach to the left of the harbour. Whitstable Windsurfing is the local shop (next to the beach -Tel: 01227 275666). They stock a range of equipment and clothes and also runs it's own wind and tide website which is update every half an hour.
There's a cafe next door which is frequented by some of the local sailors in their suits.
Directions: Head NW from Canterbury on the A290.
Parking: On seafront club.
