Weymouth Bay is a shallow water natural harbour, shallow at high tide and even shallower at low tide . This is an excellent venue for those who are new to the sport and if you get blown out to sea, youll only hit the harbour wall. Winds can go from none at all, to blowing like a call girl with a 2 minute time limit. Be wary of your fins at low tide as the shallow bits are uneven and vary around the bay. Also be aware of the bridge joining the harbour with the river, as it can take you mast apart as you are blown under it in strong onshore winds. Launching location is found in the boat marina opposite the council car park, i think day tickets are about 5, but not sure as always been paid for. But is really hot in the summer and i can recomend the pubs in Weymouth, but stay away from the saliors.

That bridge is lethal! As the tide floods and ebbs, there is a hell of a lot of water pushing through a very narrow channel. When I was there I witnessed three very experienced kiters go through it and have to be rescued. To add to the current, there was also half a dozen fishing boats anchored up in the middle, too. It handles easterlies a treat, and westerlies (offshore), will get all the speed freaks dribbling. Well worth a visit if ever your passing, but stay clear of the bridge!

I think this review needs to be renamed the Portland Harbour, confusing for those not in the know... Anyway as for Portland, ideal for the beginner, intermediate sailor and great for practising freestyle tricks on flat water (in sw/w/s anyway)... not sure if i agree with getting "saved" by the harbour wall, its about 2 miles from Ferry Bridge beach so i don't know what you would intend to do about saving yourself if you were stuck next to it!

Windtek is just up the road on the way back to Weymouth, you can't miss it as you have to drive past it.
