The Witterings is one of the best sailing spots on the South Coast within easy reach of London. T he coastline faces South West and so tends to pick up a decent ground swell give a deep depression. East Wittering works best in a strong SW to W giving starboard tack jumping and some easy wave riding. It is sailable any time from 3/4 tide to low tide. Conditions are generally bump and jump, but given a decent swell, it can be epic. The best condiions are had when the wind has been blowing SW for a few days and the low passes to give WNW (cross shore from right). This can lead to some very good wave riding. West Wittering is the spot to go for if it is high tide (there is no shore dump here and a nice little sand bar creating rideable waves). Also at low tide, the sandbar creates a lagoon with perfect flat wate - great for beginners, freestyle and speed sailing.
