Rhosneigr is probably the premier wave sailing location in North Wales and the North West of England.

Situated on a horseshoe shaped bay on the South West coast of Anglesea, 'Rhossey' picks up any swells in the Irish Sea and consequently has waves more frequently than just about any other location in this part of the world.

South Westerlies bring cross-on shore, port tack, conditions and waves up to mast high are generated offering the locals a perfect wave riding and jumping spot.

North-west winds bring cross-off shore condition on the far right-hand side of the bay and fantastic riding if you are here in these conditions which only happen ten times a year or so.

Centered around the excellent Funsport shop, the atmosphere at Rhossey is fabulous. Combine this with the excellent conditions and some seriously memorable days can be had. Funsport also has a comprehensive range of windsurfing equipment from beginner to advanced and also water sport equipment from sailing dinghy's to body boards and all in between.

They also provide tuition with courses to suit all levels. Accommodation is available in a range of B&B's throughout the town.

Directions : From the A5, turn on the left on the A4080, just after Gwalchmai. Rhosneigr is clearly sign posted at this junction. When in Rhosneigr, drive straight through the cross-roads, The beach is directly ahead. You can park in any of the surrounding roads, but please be polite and courtious to those in the sourrounding houses not all are windsurfers (the fools !)

I lived there for 2 years and from that perspective I can pass on the following:

Any SW wind forecast will be at least 10 mph higher than the BBC forecast, this is due to the wind funneling up the Irish Sea and accelerating around the headland on the left. I would see a forecast for 15 mph SW and could be sure to be out on a 75L wave board well powered up on a 4.7.

When the wind shifts to the west it is generally flukey and a lot less reliable than SW. If you have to travel, then I wouldn't bother if the forecast is for westerly (I think the wind gets interrupted over Ireland).

NE winds funnel down the river (the one that enters the bay at bozo beach to the right), this can provide some excellent flat water blasting conditions. Admittedly this is not ideal if you've driven for several hours with your wave kit but it goes to show that there is opportunity to sail in Rhossey in most directions.

Must admit that I personally find it to be a bit over rated but that is down to me!!
Hey we are all different but have to say I have seen better, cleaner and much bigger waves else where on the Island and only 2/3 people on the water!!!
But it would not be most sailors first choice as a venue and MOST DEFF NOT A NOVICES CHOICE!!
If you find it, and in the right condition you will not be dissapointed.
