Now I know its not the sea and it is extremely unlikely to have perfect cross off conditions with ma
st high waves but hey, beggars cant be choosers. So what does it have to offer? This large raised reservoir (800 acres) gets about the clearest wind you can expect inland. Not so hot in a northerly, although it is reputed that you get a thermal wind in the summer, inland? Its situated just inside the M25 just north of Sunbury as is easily accessible from all the surrounding areas and further a field. The on site shop has a large selection of makes & models and all the spares youll need, they also run a demo centre where you can try out that new board youve been promising yourself. The club house up there is open to you once youve paid for your days sail and has good changing rooms, upstairs viewing area and a caf that serves good food. The club also has a school where you can encourage the better half to join you on the water. The ringing area has plenty of tie downs and is made up of shingle to help protect the equipment (not perfect but better than West Kirby). Launching can be tricky down a step bank but they have put in rubber mats at water level to protect the boards when get in or out. When you get to the main gate which is opposite a BP garage, youll have to use the intercom to gain access (it was put in to stop terrorists from driving tankers of anthrax into the reservoir). Drive up the ramp to the upper level drop your stuff off at the far side of the club house, drive down to the bottom to park the car and walk up the stairs back to the top and off you go Ive sailed here mainly on Formula stuff but also had the occasional day on a 5.0m if can get there regularly you'll get more, the locals swear by it if you havent got time to drive down to the coast and its very good for an evening sail. The standard is that of West Kirby with the odd loop thrown in but most people just tend to have fun in the choppy conditions.
