Pwllheli beach Good in E, SE, S, SW or W!!! The nearer you are to Pwllheli and the marina entran ce the flatter the water ue to the sheltering effect of the marina. Going farther E along the beach waves and chop get bigger with a rather munchy shore break forming. No kites allowed for the 1st 400m or so of the beach, although a lot of people tend to ignore this. Abererch beach On the same stretch as Pwllheli beach, but further east. Much quieter and a good kiting venue (less damage to do). On southerly days the shorebreak can get quite evil at high tide but there's some half decent sized chop/ sell too. Access and location. Head for Pwllheli and as you get into the middle of it there's 2 mini roundabouts right next to each other. Go left at the 1st, and then take yer 1st left again after about 10m. Follow up about 400m (marina should be on your right) and then turn right at the top, just before the level crossing.... For Aberech beach turn left just after Jewsons, into a nasty indy estate, then after about 20m turn R as soon as you can see the sand dunes. Park up at the end of the grassy path and carry yer gear 30m over the dunes to the pebbley beach (mind the dog doop though). ... For Pwllheli, keep going past jewsons, and the very expensive boats, for about 150m until you reach a big netted off area on the left (looks like tennis courts but isn't) - the car park is on the left just before the nets. The beach is 20m down the path The nearest food is available from a bacon butty van, but I wouldn't recommend it, both the coffee and bacon are absolutely minging and you'd be better off eating sand n seaweed.

Get the wind right (S or SE) and you can hook in and blast parallel to beach for miles. No worries about gear failure - short drift/swim to beach but may have long walk back. Have had glorious winter days as the only board on the water.

Hey nefynbeachbum, where do you set off from in S/SE? Aberech stretch has nasty shore dump and the marina/pwllheli side is difficult to get out from because there is no wind until you get pass the marina entrance? The only time Ive had real success (and I've tried many times windsurfing there cos I live just down the road) is in NW starting from aberech.

Wouldn't "NW from Aberech" be blowing almost directly offshore??
I'd have thought in S/SE you'd still be best launching from Pwhelli. The marina entrance isn't that tall and the wind blows over it OK, and the waters nice & flat.
