Farmoor Reservoir is one of very few spots for windsurfing around Oxford, so i thought i should reve
iw it. As it is a man-made reservoir, it is subject to some very odd wind conditions.
The wind is nearly always on-shore (the shore being the landing area) with it sometimes switching to off-shore. being a reservoir, there is little in the way of waves, but some of the local high-flyers still manage vulcans etc. from the white horses that appear close to shore. The wind varies from force 1 to around 5 on a good day.
Kit hire is limited, and membership is required, but if you ever move to the area, it is basically your only choice.
One of the best things about this location is actually the website, www.oxfordsailingclub.com, which hosts a fantastic weather service that takes rweadings every 20 mins. You can veiw graphs over time, which allows you to decide whether or not to go. This website is something i think every sailing club should have!
