Dinas Dinlle is situated south of Caernarfon and provides excellent cross shore (port tack) wave sai ling in South and South South East winds. At it's best when the wind has been blowing for several days and thereby producing a good swell, the waves have by account reached mast high. More typically 3-5 ft waves can be enjoyed. There is a fairly strong rip flowing toward the Menai Straits to the north, which can be felt inshore. On the outside there is fairly large chop which focuses the mind when gybing. Less crowded than Rhosneigr, Dinas provides excellent sailing conditions, however, given that Rhosneigr favours a little West in wind direction the two venues do offer cross shore sailing at different times Facilities : There is a public toilet and a couple of 'seaside' type shops. Directions : From Caernarfon head south on the A499. Take the turnoff for the the Airport and continue along the country lane until you reach the coast, where the road turns sharply right. It is here that the shops and WC are situated. Continue along the coast (there is parking available on the left) until the road veers to the right - continue for a couple of hundred meters and then take a left and double back on yourself onto the car park.

The first time i ever sailed Dinas was perfect crosshore logo high waves,. I got there in the afternoon when the waves were rapidly decreasing, and i heard that they had been mast high in the morning. However, since then i've been back many a time and have never seen anything close to how it was. Instead finding cross/cross-onshore port tack chod. However, if you don't fancy the crowds of rhossy then it is worth a visit.
However, beware of the mean high tide shorebreak!
If you have a plane theres a private airfield just down the road.

Cheers Anon, it does sound pretty good, though my original question stands, and if the shore break is a bad time to launch how long after high tide can you sail? I am just trying to figure it out as I will have to drive from Manc so would just like to get my timing right. Ta!

Dinas.....on its day can be awesome, with logo high sets rollong in and pealing off the groin infront of the launch ramp. Keep your eye out for a heavy swell eg 5-6+ at Hells Mouth and strong S or SE, or as Ernie says..its good after a couple of days blow. Its also best to get there either on a rising or falling tide. Best on a falling tide and make sure you put up a sail to be well powered on the outside cos there's there's usually not much wind on the inside and you'll end up dumped on the shingle..not clever..I can tell you! Don't be put off by two blokes in a white Toyota who shout "Off my wave", they're a pair of plonkers anyway!!!!

If you surf Dinas can be quite a nice spot, its a mellow & slow wave, go when Hells Mouth is too big and closing out, Dinas will be waist to chest high again on the pushing or falling tide.
