Combs Sailing Club is located in Chapel-en-le-frith in Derbyshire, but is only 20/25 minutes or so from Stockport. Combs offers easy, convenient sailing all year round with un-restricted access to members and accompanying guests. I have just become a member of the club, which gives me a set of keys for access to the club and clubhouse at any time. Guests can also sail for £5 a day and £2.50 in an evening. Being only 20 minutes away from where we live, a small group of us have enjoyed some great evenings and weekends sailing amongst beautiful scenery and wildlife. Best sailed in northerly and southerly/south easterly directions, but does get gusty in other directions. The lake itself is very big and has the benefit of sand and grass flat banks all round, meaning you'll always have a safe exit point. The good thing about Combs is you can sail in most conditions without restrictions throughout the year, and especially in summer where we have enjoyed heading straight from work to sail for a couple of hours when the winds up, making the most of the light long summer evenings and summer breezes. Combs is an established sailing club with a friendly atmosphere but never feels crowded or busy. As a local venue its OK for a bit of fun... but if you've got the day head to one of the better known venues.
