Carsington in summary: + V. Friendly + Long reaches up to a mile and a half (?) + High Up - get s good wind or maybe i've just been v.v. lucky in 2004 there + Clean, Professional Facilities + Superb water quality + Great instruction + v attentive rescue boats + Well stocked shop + I'm just sussing out best wind directions, so far Southerlies and Northelies / North Easterlies have been superb days. + Great Pubs + camping nearby. +/- take your pick for target practice anything from Rowing Boats / Catamarans to V. Big Boats. - SOOO gusty in a south westerly, getting back to the beach is a mare. - mud/clay - unbelievable - it gets everywhere.

I agree with all the above except that I have had some excellent days in a south westerly - the wind is better once you are out past the island. Can be difficult getting back to the launch area though. I have found westerly and north westerly winds to be very gusty, even out past the island. I imagine that easterly is not so good either. I would say north east is best, followed by north, south and south west.
