Ixia and Trianda on Rhodes.
I stayed in Ixia on Rhodes last year and had ten days out of fourteen s
ailing.
The wind is a thermally generated cross on shore wind from the left, which normally kicked in about midday.
The local windsurf rental place, hired out Brand new J.P and F2 boards and arrows and N.P rigs. The service was spot on and friendly. There was another rental place further down the beach, which rented older F2 boards, cheaper. You pays your money you take your choice.
Ixia is slightly sheltered from the wind, so you have too sail out about 500 yards before you hit the wind line.
Once into the wind, you usually get 2-4 ft swell, that can get a bit choppy, but its a lovely colour blue and its warm. I sailed in shorts and a rash vest. {Beginning of June}.
Trianda, had more rental places including a club Mistral and an F2 fun centre, but the service wasnt as good and also a bit more expensive. But, on the plus side there was no wind shadow and the wind kicked in earlier and a bit stronger there. The European Formula Windsurfing Championships were being held there, while we where there.
The beaches are a bit tatty, fine stones and sand mixed [the wife recons they looked a bit like a building site], but the better hotels had either wooden decking or artificial surfaces down.
