Jem Hall Clinic - in Prasonisi, Rhodes (see other review of the venue). Jem is a star and very go od sailor and coach. I learned loads in just a week with him, ranging from upwind 360s to forward loops (he will happily demonstrate whatever move u want to learn & then point out where u are going wrong, and how to put it right). Used on the water training, beach based observations & video feedback. There were 10 people on the course & he looked after everyone really well. He is super keen for you to learn as much as possible and also covers kit set up stance etc.. all things u took for granted u were doing right - my stance, setup and technique have changed quite a bit as a result!! The course was great, as were all the people on it & I made some good new pals (pegleg & johmo from this very site for a start!) - without being too exhausing (unless u want it to be). It's quite expensive (that is the 1 and only drawback) & i'm now well skinted but am very pleased to have spent the money on that course rather than a new board - it's an investment in the future of your sailing..... worth every penny if u can scrape 'em together... Now I just need some wind so I can go & practice all the new stuff....! See you on the water....

Nice review Shawn ( and the Prasonisi one )

Had been looking at going to Ireland with Jem earlier in the year but it was full. Must try to get booked in earlier next time.

I've been on two of Jems clinincs. They're great fun and you you get to learn the stuff you want because Jem is a very, very good coach. He has a natural ability to understand the way you learn. He then breaks the move down into easy to learn steps and helps you to master each step. You then put it all together and before you know it, you're pulling it off (the move, you perv!).

Jem works hard to keep the fun and enthusiasm going even when you're knackered after a few full on days sailing. Just a point though if you want to learn stuff like loops and more advanced freestyle you can't expect to come away from the clinic pulling them off unless you are totally committed and prepared to take some crashes!

I've met some great folk, including Shawn and JoMo, on both clinics and learn't shed loads!

Jem Hall coaching in Tobago
written by rednemesisdog , April 27, 2006
In February myself and my son (age 12)were lucky enough to be invited by Boards magazine to test boards and sails in Tobago. Jem was there with Ian Leonard and Gregg Dunnett as the professional testers and we had a great time. During the 2 weeks, Jem was relentless in offering advice and tuning to both of us, resulting in my son trying his first Vulcans and me getting around my carve gybes for the first time. Jem is a fantastic coach, not only because he can spot and communicate what changes you need to make to improve your sailing, but also because he also gets you to think about diet and exercise to get the most out of your sailing. Tobago was very kind to us and we had 13 (out of 14) days of consistent trade winds. The lagoon bay at Pigeon Point is really safe and for a big part you can stand up, and the reef is good for wave sailing when the swell is up (so I understand...). The hire centre at Pigeon Point is also first class and professional centre with an excellent range of kit and really competent windsurfing staff. In short, Tobago in February is awesome - add Jem Halls coaching and you\'ll get a step change improvement in your windsurfing if you are anything from beginner to intermediate it is perfect to improve your game. I would strongly recommend wearing boots/shoes, despite the temptation to go barefoot as the coral in the sand can be brutal, also, as always for the softhanded, it\'s probably best to wear some form of gloves for the first couple of days, as blisters will ruin the pleasure of your stay. One word of warning - coming back to the sub zero sailing in the UK was a major shock to the system, and you\'re going to want to get back out there as soon as you can. Sportif sorted us out on the travel side and everything went very smoothly. Highly recommended!

Recently returned from a Jem Hall clinic in Rhodes. The weather, wind, sailing venue & other guys & girls on the course were great and Jem provided some fantastic coaching. Jem uses various coaching techniques to take you through the moves one step at a time e.g. on the beach, on the simulator, on big boards in light winds as well as getting you to perform the moves in planing conditions while watching your technique and offering advice. The other key technique is the use of video and I really enjoyed the video feedback sessions. They were pretty tough as you saw how you really look on the water rather than how you imagine but Jem provides some great advice and it's great to see the results in the following days video session. He also used his beginnner to winner DVD to complement his caoching and I think that worked really well. The DVD also has the advantage that you can refer to it after the clinic to remind yourself about the key points (highly recommended purchase). This is my 2nd clinic and I'm now regularly planing out of gybes, working on duck gybes, tacks, heli tacks, carve 360s and sailing faster with a much improved stance, my only regret is that I didn't attend a windsurfing clinic sooner. So, if you want to improve, no matter how many years you've been sailing, get yourself on a course......
