Corsica is a beautiful undeveloped island in the Med. It's part of Franch teritory though actually it is closer to Italy. Its not a big island maybe 80 miles long & 50 ish wide, but it is very mountainous and has snow caps well into June. The island has a very French feel about it and your hosts will give the impression they would be bothered you were there at all!! However the trip is well worth it as the beaches and beautiful unspoilt meditereanen landscapes are stunning. You won't find a high rise hotel or McDonalds anywhere on the island, instead you'll find walled medeaval towns full of artisan shops. As for windsurfing, there's two main areas, 1) in the South around Bonafacio and 2) in the North around Calvi. I've only sailed in Bonafacio where there are 3 main spots 1) Tonara, big open bay gret for freeride, freestyle, onshore waves when wind from the west. 2) Pianterella, long beach that has an island 200 metres offshore. Shallow with a sandy bottom, clear blue water, that is usally flat. Excellent for freestyle, but the wind blows offshore so can be gusty. There is a hire shop here called Bonafacio Windsurf. It has North and Mistral kit and gives lessons. Good spot also for learning. 3) Santa Manza. Is a beach along a long wide valley that fulls the SW winds down it. It flat near the beach and choppy in the middle. Very populr spot especially with local, Swiss, German and Italian visitors. Great for freestyle and freemove, not really a beginers spot as there are a few shallow rock ledges near the shore which you could get snagged on. Last year I sailed 70% of days, this year 50% of days. May & June are good months before it gets really busy . Boards to take 100-125 lires. Sails 6.5-4.5. I took my 102 twintip, 5.5,5.0, 4.5. Mainly used a 5.5. Expect to use 4.5 once or twice. Some days it can get too windy to sail. People sail in boardies and a rash vest but they were probably Eskimos. I found a 2/3mm full suit was about right. It is also possible to sail at Ajaccio on the East coast, however the wins are much lighter. I saw guys on 12m sails and formula boards. There is a shop on the beach that hires boards and catamarans. Accomodation is maily rented appartments, rooms or camping. A number of uk websites have accomodation in Corsica and around Bonafacio try Holiday Options and Direct Corsica. Charter flights start May, but Air France goes every day from Paris and Marsiles. Enjoy
