Many thanks to Richard and Andy from SAS for coming to the North West during their call of the wild tour.

They appeciated the timing was off in respect of a certain footie game. Both of them realised that perhaps WK on the wednesday might have been a better option with Edinburgh on thursday! But the tour schedule had been sorted out a good while ago.

The two guys are part of the three man campaign team at SAS, but they felt it was important to see other UK recreational water users in their natural habitat, and so have taken time out to tour.

Richard and Andy took about a dozen of us through a powerpoint slide presentation outlining some of the issues that they try to tackle. They talked about their philosophy (using humour) and ethics about the way they campaign all on a shoestring. It was interesting that they highlight positives too, such as a cruise ship that uses UV sewage treatment onboard.

One thing that did come from the meeting was that unless they know about an issue there is nothing that can be done.

So if anybody notices anything that is of concern, please let me know via PM and i'll pass on the info.

This includes anybody feeling iffy after being in the lake or on the estuary. If there is something to get their teeth into which can be backed up by hard evidence, scientific or otherwise, they promised to lean on UU or welsh water as appropriate.

Again, thank you, to two of the most pleasant people you would wish to meet.

I\'ve felt like shit since sailing Wed/Thurs last week. (Although I was feeling rather ropey rigging up on Wed so I suspect I just made a cold a lot worse....) :\'(

Ern,

I\'ve felt like poopoo since Wednesday, as have the three other guys I sailed with. My little sis also got something \'cold like\' after she sailed on Wednesday. If anybody else has we should let SAS know...

smilies/lipsrsealed.gif Does anybody know to what extent the outfall at Sandon Dock, or wherever it comes out Wirral side, is treated? I actually work for an aforementioned company and can\'t get a straight answer. Maybe SAS have this info, in fact I\'m sure they will.

I\'ve had various ear infections over the last few years (basically since I started sailing at WK). These have ranged from mild cases of blocked ears lasting a few days to v. painful earache of the drilling-into-your-head sort & several bouts of labyrinthitis (essentially you lose all sense of balance & feel horribly sick for hours/days at a time - so much so you don\'t even feel like going windsurfing...). I\'ve never been entirely sure if these were because of the water or just coincidental, but I went out yesterday (Sun 9th) after a long (& entirely ear-infection free) lay-off & got water in my right ear I couldn\'t shift. Sure enough I then spent several hours awake last night with another infection in that ear. I\'ve got a pair of ear-plugs to get round this (which I forgot to put in yesterday), but I don\'t much enjoy sailing without being able to clearly hear what\'s going on around me (despite what the manufacturers claim, they block out most sound). Anyone else had ear problems or am I just unlucky?

I got a reply from SAS in the week regarding the reported sickage. They have started digging around to see what they can dredge (intended) up. UU are obliged to provide any discharge details under the freedom of info act.
