Shotwick Lake is sited by the huge UPM Paper Mill on Deeside Industrial Estate. It’s the old Corus sailing club and run by a very friendly and enthusiastic club of mainly dingy sailors who also enjoy windsurfing. The freshwater lake is about 700m by 300m. Best wind West through to North and South through South East. The wind is a gustier than West Kirby but it is similar sailing format of short runs on flat/choppy water, so its great for freestyle & blasting. It has a shallow launch area perfect for beginners to learn beachstarts etc. There is safety cover on hand.
As I write this the club is seeking to increase its membership, it has an active social scene and regular racing on a Sunday 10:30 to 13:30. When racing is on non participating members aren't allowed to sail. The lake, grounds and club house are very well maintained and secure, has a galley, changing rooms and showers. Membership is much more reasonable than an annual West Kirby licence, but day licences aren't what this club is about. You can try it for a couple of hours before committing, just turn up and have a chat with Ron who runs the club.
