This is a peach of a location though is a bit tricky to find. Wonwell is just west of Modbury in Devon. Mothercombe is directly opposite on the western side of the River Erme. The estuary is roughly south facing, so southerlys and south westerleys are the order of the day, It is very similar in aspect to Daymer Bay in Cornwall though is about half the size. There is very little parking space on the Wonwell side (about space for 7-8 cars) though have been told that Mothercombe has more space though cant comment on this. This location can only really be sailed at high tide, a couple of hours either side, and does seem to change at different states of tide. There are some lovely sand bars which throw up a couple of really nice long breakers which provide some really nice clean ramps that even a numpty like me can get some height off, these provide some nice long wave rides on the other tack. For the wave sailors this can give some nice bottom turns... when the tide turns it seems to flatten off a bit and some locals have told me that it can be a good speed location but I have yet to see this. Tends to get busiest on strong southerlys and south westerleys when Bigbury and the like are just too mental. There are no ameneties or shops at all. When I get my arse in gear some photos will follow.
