iWindsurf needs YOU! PDF Print E-mail

As I hope you've read in our introduction iWindsurf.co.uk is created & hosted voluntarily.  The majority of the content is due to people's discussions in the forums, uploading pictures or advertising stuff in the classifieds.

The site would definitely benefit from some more regular input so if you think you have a particular interest that you could contribute on a vaguely regular basis we'd love to hear from you

Most of the day to day admin is done by Bert & Ernie which has loosely fallen into the routine of Bert tinkers with code and functionality whilst Ernie trys to get some meat on the bones in terms of content.  Shawn has also developed a nice habit of giving us his best estimate wind forecasts whenever he can - he claims they are notoriously unreliable but we love 'em anyway.

There are a few areas of the site which could benefit from being adopted by someone and looked after - ideas are;

The galleries - They are a bit disorganised and amongst the gems are quite a few old, useless, terrible, blurred photo's.  We could do with a 'Gallery Moderator' or similar who would devise a way of pruning the galleries down and keep them organised as new piccies are added and maybe update a weekly(ish) photo for the front page.

Web Links - find more, make sure the ones we've got are current and well organised, get links to our site on other peoples sites.  - Web Link Moderator?

News - If you are involved in a facet of the sport such as T15, racing, building your own kit etc. why not keep us up to date by writing the odd article?  Anybody can submit a news article and we rarely turn them down! (I reserve the right to correct typo's!) Do you habitually look at all the windsurfing websites? if so a weekly or monthly or "whenever you can spare the time" web round up would be really useful - a quick article telling us all the news from other websites, preferably with links to their sites (we don't want to steal their content, just refer to it)

Google Maps - there are still lot's of our reviews which need locating (lat & lon looking up) and entering onto the google map feature - then it could do with some occaisional tidying up and a method of new submissions for shops etc working out? Google Map Moderator?

!NEW! Holiday destinations calendar - someone suggested in the forums we do a feature showing where to windsurf at each time of year - I've created a structure i.e. an intro page and then a page for each month.  The idea is that people add comments to the bottom of each page which provides the information.  First of all these pages could all do with a little intro writing and maybe some basic stats regurgitating then later the comments could be transfered to the main text - I'm sure the comments will need moderating, some moving to the forums etc.

Windsurfing Wiki helpers - I bought the domain name windsurfwiki.co.uk & .com with the aim of constructing a more in-depth version of the entry on wikipeadia - a huge task but very rewarding.  I can install the same software they use and work it into the site then it's another case of promotion and administration?

I have other ideas - or if you do then let us know.  I'm afraid the rewards are purely qualitative - there's no money involved, but I do promise to get some T-shirts done some time soon and we'd certainly organise some socials...... in return the commitment is low (negligable) you can contribute as much or as little as you want and we won't fall out with you if you stop!  No internet/web design skills are needed, just the ability to navigate the site with your browser and type stuff (I'll grant you access to add stuff and explain how it's done) - most of all it's actually quite FUN!

I am sure I could do something seeing as I spend a silly amount of time on the site anyway, i might as well do something useful. it would have to be very very very simple though as my understanding of technical things is nonexistant.

Hi,

I am not much of a journalist, but if you ever want a hand with the coding stuff I might be interested.

I am a C# programmer by day, but I dabbled in web development using PHP/MYSQL at uni a couple of years back and quite fancy improving my skills in it a bit.....

Cheers,
Chris
Helping out

Hi. I'm spending so much time on looking at web sites and links and using wind guru (which is great by the way) I could help with web links and web linking. I'm also a sports medic (no kidding) so I could run a forum on injuries, training for windsurfing, that kind of thing. Any interest? I'm an intermediate surfy if that's of any interest... smilies/cheesy.gif
