Rhossy advice 2 Years ago

I want to try Rhossy out to see what the fuss is about. As I dont have a dedicated wave board I don't fancy tackling 2m waves! (predicted for monday) The most I can see myself facing would be 1.5's on my mistral radar 105. I figure I can get away with that as from the pics i've seen there seems to be a decent wave period at Rhossy. Windguru shows westerly wind of just below 20kts for Tue. For a 1st time in waves is this too much to tackle? or probably about right? The other thing, is anyone planning on being there on Tue? The other alternative would be 4mile bridge, but I have no idea where to go to launch. Plus from a safety point of view, I don't want to be sailing alone if everyone else is at Rhossy.

Hi Strontiumdog (is that you Frank from mountain biking last Thursday evening ?) The forcasts I've seen for Tuesday are showing Westerly wind which is pretty onshore at Rhossy so I wouldn't bother for a first trip there. Its not that there is a nasty shore break but getting out might be a problem and then the direction is all wrong for playing with the waves. Best direction to get a feel for the place would be SW which is cross-on so you can get out easily enough (especially if you start well upwind of the shop where its a lot flater) but you can still attack a few waves. 20kts would be fine as that won't generate big waves (unless there has been a deep low and big swell tracking through). If you go off WindGuru's forcast Monday might be a good day but Theyr is showing a lot more wind. If you've got the time I would definatly go Monday. If WindGuru is right it will be a good introduction. If Theyr is right you get to see the place on a half decent day and you can then go to the Maelog lake (oposite the Maelog hotel just before you get to the village). Spent a lot of time there myself when I first started going to Rhossy. S
