has anyone out there got back into sailing following shoulder surgery or other major surgery? I am on the mend following reconstructive op to stabilize my right shoulder. before the op I s### myself everytime i was on the water, though not surprising really as i ended up in hospital twice, once dislocating it a mile or so offshore in a blow.I really hope to get out there again. its funny you miss it like mad when you cant do it. I need my fix!

I have compressed the lowest disc in my back. It has meant i can't run or lift for over 6 months. Doing intensive phsio and going to an osteopath to try and get it right to go away this summer but its looking less and less likely with only eight weeks to go. I sods law the only time you have money and time off it goes wrong. Well anyway it might be better for september.

Also i haven;t been to the lake while its been windy for ages. What level of tide do people kite on. I suppose you can kite on a pretty small tide. Must be fun when you dump the kite though.

You can kite on a lot less water than windsurfing at WK, so if you can see the water and don't mind walking a little you can get out.

Roughly speaking it's about 8.0m +, although I've been out on 7.5m when its been desperate.

Anybody new to kiting at WK, please ask one of the locals about the 10 voluntary guidelines.

Had alot of problems with my shoulder a few years ago - recurring dislocation. Doesn't do much for your confidence on the water! The op I had was a putti plat(?). Physio is really important - as often as you can.Stretching to get full mobility was the key for me rather than build up of strength.I used anything - found a kettle filled with water good as could vary the weight easily

Putti-Platt - tightening the subscapularis muscle to limit external rotation. - a method of correcting recurrent anterior disclocation of the shoulder.

Recurrent anterior dislocation happens when shoulder is fully extended & externally rotated eg swimming backstroke or reaching for a ball in a rugy lineout.

Managed my first proper waterstart today and foot in back footstrap planing and all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whahayyyyyy!!!!!!! Sad I know , but got me stoked!!. Windy John may be getting a visit from me for a new short board!!

I think we're going to have to take SteveScotts boards and sails of him.

If he keeps progressing as quick as he is, we are all going to look like losers!
