I've heard about it, but although I've been w'surfing for years it's never happened to me before. My 2-piece 40% carbon is stuck tohether and it won't shift. I had half the beach pulling and tugging but it ain't gonna shift. I've tried a gallon of WD40, hot water and have run out of ideas.

I remember an arcticle in Windsurf months ago where they built a rope winch around a bloody great gate post but can't remember the details. Has anyone got a trick for this one... ?

Two booms, one below the joint and one above. Clamp them tight and then get a mate to twist one the oposite way to the one you are twisting. If you find it still wont move try wd40 on the joint, make sure you dont get it all aver the mast, or even some water. Twisitng the booms back and forwards a bit at a time will break down the sand and hopefully the sections will part!!

Don't do the clamps up too tight as it can crush the mast weaking in it... and then the next time it's under strain it will snap.

To stop this happening again, before you sleeve the mast up the luff, tape the joint with duct/insulating tape first.(only enough to cover the joint, not yards of it!) Not only does this stop sand getting stuck in the joint, it stops the mast coming apart in the luff when de-rigging, especially on cammed sails. The main thing is, make sure the joints are clean first, before putting to-gether.
