Windsurfing on land?? 12 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi,
I'm an ex-windsurfer (of 10 years ago) but still have my own gear - I know it will be woefully out of date and the wrong colour.

I'm trying to research how I could use the sails on a board to go over land with. I remember 15 yrs ago having a go on a board with sail attached called a Humpit but these don't seem to exist anymore there must be something that has taken over in the meantime but I need to find out the name of them so I can see if I could buy a 2nd hand one from anywhere.

Any pointers greatly appreciated.
Regards

I think you'll find it was called speedsailing e.g. http://www.speedsailuk.com/Speedsail/tabid/261/Default.aspx although beware that is definitely a commercial site.

I still have one but the tyres have perished and I think the rubber collars in the trucks would need replacing. We pretty much stopped doing it when they banned it on the beach at WK after the woman getting killed on the beach - I think at Lytham st Annes

Or maybe one of these would be better => http://www.powerkiteshop.com/boards/index.htm

don't underestimate your old kit - mines 10 years old and goes just fine

Let us know how you get on...

Thanks very much Bert for your very quick response.
speedsailing looks to be the one I'm after - now just need to see if I can pick one of the boards up 2nd hand.

The items at the Powerkiteshop all looked to be mountain boards with nowhere to attacha sail to.

I feel an email to speedsailing site coming on.
Regards

We also used to do this a lot on a normal skateboard - all you do to attach the sail is drill a hole and stick the bottom bolt of a UJ through the deck and put a nut underneath - there's no special fittings
I'm sure people have used those boards too however the longer speedsail is probably better...
