If anyone has ideas what stats they would like to see then please make constructive comments here.

A demo can be seen here showing the top 20 sailors based on the number of logs and reported hours sailed

To see all the different chart types available have a look at the software developers website - you can browse through the gallery of chart types

I won't be around for a few weeks so don't be surprised I won't be responding or taking part in the discussion till I'm back.

I used to log my sessions on this site and it is quite useful. However, when the site format changed the feature disappered for a while. So I now have a log on my computer.
So I think an important feature is to be able to upload/download all your data in a defined format.
The best thing a log gives you is which equipment you use the most. This can be different from what you think. You skew your ideas towards the equipment you would most like to use.
The true picture tells you how to best spend your money.

good idea - what format do you keep your information in? - excel? it would be quite easy to write a short _script_ to upload that info to the logs... and some instructions for you to save it in the right format
but if it's in something more obscure it might be difficult?
Does anyone else keep a log on their computer & if so how....

This great and will encourage more people to log. To improve on it.....

Be able to chosses a date range from to. So for example I really only started using the log this summer, so I'd want to comapre from 1/6/09 to cureent

Be able to chart location, so you can see where you are spending most time sailing and how well you rated the sessions

Great work, Carl

Sounds like a great idea. What about having stats for venues also, if it is easy to gather them from the individual sailors. The link for "the software developers website" seems to be broken.

you're right jose, link fixed

good ideas both - I think a form listing all equipment with date to and from and even venue selection - that way you can see what gear you use at a certain venue.
Also I think somewhere I saw a google map feature - I'll have to research that a bit more after my hols.
definitely venue stats jose - Would be good to see what size sails or wind forces or which has least gusty wind??

phew I can see some hours coding coming up....

any other ideas?
