What size mast should I get? 2 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
I've got a number of sails with different luff sizes. The biggest one is 5m the middle one is 4.60m and the smallest one is 4m.

Can all of these fit on the same mast with a foot extention?
What size mast should I get?

Thanks
Ed

Well the detailed answer is that it will depend on the particular sails, and how sensitive they are to the mast curve (IMCS rating), and whether they have adjustable heads. The data should be printed on the sails and probably also on the sail bags. You can also get info for many makes of the brands' websites.

The quick answer though is tat I'd think the odds are good they'd all fit on a 400 though, assuming an adjustable head strap at least on the smaller sails.

The question is are those the sail sizes or the luff lengths?

If the latter then i'd say you would need at least 2 masts. A 460 plus extention (possibly) for the 5m length and the 460 length and a 4m or under mast for the 4m length.

I've personally got a range of sails and a range of masts to fit but never carry the full range when i go. I just check the forecast and take what i need. ( Plus, i'm crap, so that simpliflies things!)

I agree with Two Fish a 400 plus an extension should cover all sails 4.0 to 5.0. I can rig all mine on a 400 plus 28cm extension.
I only need a 430 for my 5.3 sails and above, but check the luff length on the sail and the rigging instructions.

A 460 would be way too big for a 5.0 sail.

Indeed!!!!

But is the 5.0 he mentions the sail size or is it the luff length...
