Where are you all getting a figure of 30 spaces license holder spaces from?

The plans just say it is a managed car park with provision for licence holders.

As it is managed by CI, you would expect that the main aim of the management would be to ensure that there is enough parking to meet the needs of the hotel, restaurant and bar first so it does not hurt their bottom line.

The sailing school manager thinks it's OK, so it must be a good proposal, not.

Does any one know if he's also in charge of licences and if not who is responsible. It would also be interesting to know how many licence holders there are, and what would happen if they all turned up on the same day.

As for rigging up on Salisbury Ave, watch out for the grey Gestapo, may be they will put in double yellows on both sides of the road to allow better access to the hotel. They seem to be bending over backwards to see this proposal through.

Hi Robbie,

follow this link:
http://democracy.wirral.gov.uk/Published/C00000121/M00000358/AI00004133/$TheSailReport2.docA.ps.pdf
section 3.2 says:
"To mitigate the net loss of public parking provision on the Dee Lane site, Carpenter
Investments propose bringing the car park in front of the sailing school into wider
public use. This car park is currently only available for lake licence holders and as a
result is under-used. Periodically the car park is forced to close in bad weather but
such inclement weather invariably reduces the number of visitors to West Kirby
anyway. Carpenter Investments proposes retaining use for lake licence holders as
part of the terms of that licence, with a pay and display provision for the general
public. The car park would be actively managed to ensure that preference is given to
lake licence holders at peak times for sailing. A revised site plan (see appendix 2)
indicates a further capacity of 110 parking spaces with up to 80 public parking spaces
expected to be available once parking provision for any lake licence holders has been
taken into account."

So 110 - 80 = 30. Oddly enough there are exactly 30 spaces marked on the plan adjacent to the rigging area. Not entirely sure how its possible to account for the provision of extra parking (above the 30), if the car park is full with 80 pay and display users, and 30 license holders and 1 more license holder shows up are they (the private parking company responsible) going to ask a pay and display customer to leave? Or perhaps they will using forecasting to predict the usage of the car parking and restrict access on potentially windy days.

This company seems to have made no allowance for future new license holders, and cannot possibly predict how many day ticket visitors are going to turn up on any given day. For people like myself who travel a fair way to get to WK (and at a fair cost in fuel), the thought of turning up for a days sail to be turned away by some muppet because there's no space in the car park would be hard to swallow. They are in danger of ruining the North West's best windsurfing location. The North West should be developing these sort of locations into centres of sports excellence, encouraging youngsters and newcomers to the sport by making it more accessible, with RYA professional coaching, kit hire, watersports retailers, a fitness centre, and bringing national and international competitions to the venue. Then enlarge the lake by a third, decrease the yearly license and create a bigger car park with astro turf rigging areas. Then membership would increase along with a fresh appetite for watersports in the North West, and in turn the money would follow. Instead it looks like Starbucks and stewed tea is all this outfit will be serving up!
Commercialism... don't you just love it?

Get in there mate and if you can't get that sort of investment and enthusiasm from local and national government in the lead up to 2012 what chance does any sport in this country have unless of course we can introduce playstation as an olympic event........
Of course if we were south of Watford it might be a completely different story, imagine this occuring, say at Weymouth for instance?

You're absolutely right. Why is it that down south they seem to have things bang on with great facilities, but here people seem to just want to kill the sport off, or make it as restrictive as humanly possible.

Nice one Stoker, someone thinks the same as me.

If I was still a member I may have contacted the RYA to see where they would stand on the issue... 'Protecting and Promoting Boating', isn't that their thing?

I've had some good sessions at WK, so I shall continue to feel sad (honest) whilst I enjoy the delights of Melville water. :_blink_:

Btw, it'd cost me a LOT more than you in fuel to get to WK! And you reckon you'd be upset if you were turned away?
