Currently windsurf are the main users of the car park, and as other have said we can fill the car park easily. I believe the is a Kayak club that use the lake and also would use more than the allocated spaces. My opinion is the more voices the better, so I'm now going to contact the Councilers about the proposals

I'm involved with a group, with Paul, who are opposed to the hotel, but would welcome a alternative redevelopment of the sailing school. During the bid process there was a proposal for the redevelopment of the sailing school only, but this was rejected for reasons that have not been made public.

From the start the loss of parking has always been a major problem with this proposal, underground parking so close to the sea was a fantasy.

We have a representative at the meeting on the 9th who can present any concerns you may have with this development. Please PM me and I can put you in touch.

I think the meeting is also open to the public, if you make your selves known it may be possible that a windsurfing/lake user representative could get a chance to speak.

The meeting is Thursday, 9th April, 2009 6.15 pm Committee Room 1 - Wallasey Town Hall. http://democracy.wirral.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=121&MId=358&Ver=4 look for item 15.

There is a simple solution to the car parking. If the developers were seriously sugesting funding an underground car park then for a fraction of the cost they could easily extend the present car park northwards taking up a bit of the beach and moving the pedestrian access to the beach a corresponding distance. This extension could then by completely public pay and display leaving the present car park for sole use of the lake license holders.

It would need to have at least and extra 100 spaces, to even reach the current levels of parking without taking into account extra demand from the hotel and redeveloped sailing school.

I don't think tarmacing the beach would go down well with planners.

Whilst tarmaccing a beach (or any other amenity), is always contentious, what the council need to be aware of is the potential loss of business on the lake. It is a massive beach, and the wall for the marina is hardly a natural phenomena in the first place. It's still the best place but if you can't park and rig up close by, what can you do? For totally going against nature look at Crosby Beach, with the criminally negligent staues.
