Celebrating the return of the forum . . .

OK, like most of the North West sailors on here, I eargerly await southerlys or south westerlys so that I can head to Rhossi. However when the wind is coming from other directions, I often struggle to pick / plan the right venue. What I'd like to have in my head, or better still, on the forum, is a kind of 360 degree, round the compass plan of spots that work well in each direction.

What would your top tips be for various directions?

[Edit] Useful thread on NE venues here.

[Edit] A few more suggestions from Bob here.

Yep, great to see the forum working again.

The Fylde coast just about does the whole 360. Fleetwood has a north facing beach so westerly through to easterly covered, sail from the beach (kite shop) at 3hrs either side of high tide and in the channel at low tide. Round the coast we have Cleveleys with miles of west facing beach, sail any tide although the shorebreak's bad at high tide. Those 2 locations cover everything except a south-easterly so head to the beach at Fairhaven (between Lytham and St.Annes) and that should cover that direction but high tide only (not sailed there for over 10 years so can't say much about the place).

Fleetwood's certainly the most versatile and I don't imagine there are many places around the NW that work in an easterly! Check out the UK reviews on this site for more info. Cheers. Rich.

Cheers Rich. That's really useful, particularly as I've never tried anywhere on the Fylde coast.

Lligwy works in an easterly, albeit a bit onshore. It's a beautiful spot too.

Yes, there's great location info on the site here and I also use the forces-of-nature , Boardseeker and Windsruf mag beach guides too. They're all great once you have a spot in mind, but they're organised by location, not by wind direction. Hence my wanting to 'map the 360'.

PS. you're not 'Bongo Rich' by any chance are you?
