The RNLI provides the lifesaving service that keeps windsurfers safe when out on the sea - our crews are made up of volunteers and we need around £335,000 per day to maintain the service that rescues an average of 23 people per day.
As well as guaranteed places at the world’s largest half-marathon, the Great North Run (5th Oct,
www.rnli.org.uk/greatnorthrun), we also have guaranteed places at the increasingly popular Great Manchester Run (18th May,
www.rnli.org.uk/greatmanchesterrun). The 10km course takes in the sights of Manchester’s cosmopolitan city centre, taking you out to Salford Quays and Old Trafford before finishing back in the city centre. Our post-race parties at both of these events include a reviving massage to soothe those aching limbs! Or why not try the up and coming Tamworth 10km race (4th May,
www.rnli.org.uk/events), which offers a great atmosphere and finishes in the grounds of the spectacular Tamworth Castle.
Don’t fancy all that training? Then why not test your mettle at the daring Dracula Drop in Whitby, North Yorks on Saturday 26th April?! This exhilarating bungee jump sees you leaping from a platform 160ft above Whitby Harbour, with the ruined Abbey as your backdrop. All you need to do to bungee for free is raise over £100 sponsorship. Alternatively, you can do the double and zipslide AND abseil from the top of the 170ft Baitings Dam, West Yorks on the same day (Sat 21st June). Get the ultimate adrenaline rush as you fly through the air over the water, and then abseil down the side of the dam, taking in the incredible views as you go. To take this double challenge you’ll need to raise £250 in sponsorship – easy if you ask all of your friends who are too scared to do it to donate £10!
