Starboard formula wood Repair progress. 1 Year, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
If you have read my post about the bungled board repair then this is the follow up where I attempt my first ever repair.

Read on down and see how far I have got with the advice given on this forum and by members through PM's.

My _object_ive with these repairs is to get it back on the water for September and if the repairs don't hold do it again over winter. Therefore I haven't gone for perfection.

I'm doing two repairs to the board. Firstly repair to the rail damage I inflicted on the board and secondly a crack on the deck that was my first real idea there was a hollow hidden under the deck.

These images show the original damage cut away

Rail.

Deck.

The hole in the deck seemed to stretch down about 10cm and reached into corners I couldn't see or feel. I had to either cut more out and run the risk of having to repair where the fin box is or trying to blind fill the gaps. As I want to get it on the water asap I went for the bodge. I broke down EPS sheets into beads and pressed _layer_s into the holes. The top most _layer_ was mixed with epoxy and pressed into place and a final _layer_ was brushed over and left to go hard.

Deck filled with eps.

I left this for a few days and then glassed in the remainder with clothe.
Glassed repair with excess cut back and sanded. A final _layer_ of epoxy to level the dip in the middle was added. There is still a dip but as I am not sure this would work I didn't think it was worth spending precious time getting it super flat.
Final Stage sanded and ready for painting.

The rail repair.
_layer_ed up with clothe & Epoxy then sanded back

This was sanded back and a final _layer_ of epoxy brushed on and sanded.

I've started re varnishing the bottom of the board.
First coat.

Improvements can be made to all I have done but I want to see if they stay there when in use before I do more.

Cheers

Dan
