How big a rig? 1 Year, 2 Months ago Karma: 1
I'm back on a board after 15 years etc etc. I need a bigger rig for lighter days having only got a 6.5. I'm low a intermediate, with a Carve and weigh ahem c90kg but am loving it.

I think I can do a really big 11m odd sail but am I better with a 9m? And as my mast will only go up to 460 with extension and boom to 220, am I going to need a new boom/ mast whatever I do?

7.5/8.0 is probably as big as you'll get on your mast and boom - You're into diminishing returns when you get mcuh bigger than 8.5 I'd say, and it can be expensive. An 11m sail is a monster and you'll need an expensive 520 mast and decent big boom to make it work - It's unlikely to help your sailing much either

If it helps I'm about 85kg and on my Starboard Formula 175 I can get going really well with an ancient 7.5mtr sail in about 15+ kts of wind.
