Hi and welcome to the wonderful world of windsurfing.
Booms are available in different sizes but each size has a range of lentgh ajustment to suit sails in a range. I have a few booms but these days you can get a few different sail sizes to fit one boom. I have one that gets used much more than any other. It will fit sails from 4m2 to 6+m2 and if you are new to the sport and/or a coastal sailor go for one that starts at 150cm (ie its shortest length) If you plan to sail more inland you would soon need bigger sails as you progress so go for a boom of 160cm+. Sails range from about 3.5m to 11m+ but a sensible sail to learn on would be anything from 4.7 to 5.7 depending on your weight and how sheltered your local stretch of water is. Above all, dont skimp on a mast. Get as high carbon content as you can afford, dont think I will save up and get one when Im good because you wont get good with a heavy mast. Alloy booms are great though. you will be able to rig most sails from 3.7-5.3m2 on a 400 mast.Bigger than that 5.4m-6.2 you will need a 430. check with the sail it will have a luff measurement which is how much mast you need plus how much extension. (You will need a mast extension)check the boom measurement of your sail/s fit within the range of your boom and bobs your uncle!
