Hello Dan_T, Eva at boardlady.com always replicates the original construction of the board, so a lot of her repairs involve vacuuming in new foam (which needs specialist kit). If you have no delamination around the split, you could consider opening up the crack, filling & fairing, and then capping with fibreglass. Materials wouldn't cost very much, and would be less likely to fail than Dr Ding. Why not post a pic of the damage so we can see the nature of the beast ? Cheers, Mark.

Welll, knowing a thing or 2 about breaking kit, I think I can bring some advice.

Ding Stick is good as a temp repair at best, I tried to fill a crack across the back of my free formula board... didn't really work as the deck will move independantly of the ding stick and you will end up having to ding stick the ding stick!!

There is, if you hunt on the internet companies that sell proper surfing resin stuff they use to make surf boards with. i used it to "re-model" the nose of my tommen I snapped off. Seems to be holding up so far, does require some work but the results are worth it.

Good luck!!

What a fantastic forum this is, thanks for the further replies.

As suggested I have pulled the board out of my garage, whipped it out of the bag and taken some pics.

Top side view. Where the hand model's thumb is, you might be able to see a slight darkening, this patch is soft.

Bottom side view

Inaddition I have noticed a crack on the deck just in front of the deck and around a grey primer looking circle. it's quite subtle and easily missed but I have had a prod about and found a softer patch in front of the crack.

This may well smack of Grannies and sucking eggs but, right click, view image will give you a full size view of my cracks...

cheers again,

Dan

Ah, that looks quite serious. I don't think any of the quick fixes will last long.
How longs it been like this? I guess the dark patches on the wood are water ingress? If water's been in there for any length of time there's probably quite a bit of delamination so the the only long term fix is probably a la boardlady to stick everything back together. i.e. fix any damaged foam stick the foam to the skin and feather the skin repair to spread the load.
Depends how much its worth I suppose, if it's not worth going the whole hog then drying out the board for a couple of weeks somewhere warm then sanding down a largish area and slapping a couple of _layer_s of glass and epoxy over the top might fix it for a while (might be a long while if you don't stress it again)

Hi Sharkey, I think it was only like it during the last sail. I have a sneaking feeling it was like that from a ding it sustained in the car park before I hit the water. It's too obvious to have been like that before.

It's a 2001-2 model and has had reasonable amount of usage. I'm guessing its only worth throwing £60 - £80 at but over that it would probably suit a bodge job.

I am going to have a bash at this myself. If I can get a summer or two out of this board I'll be happy and I'm not bothered if it look's DIY repaired.

Going to search the web for some repair materials. Anything particular I should look to buy? Does the construction of this board require any specific materials or will the general kit like this general kit like this, do the job?

Cheers again,

Dan
