Starbaord formula wood repair. 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
I managed to get a cracking sail on this board friday. This was slightly marred by noticing a nice long jagged crack along one rail about 3-4" long. When I applied a wee bit of pressure to it the crack flexed and the surrounding area seemed a wee bit soft. Is this a DIY able repair and how would I do it. I have looked at the repair section on the home page but my crack seemed a bit more than this.

Any suggestions welcome.

Dan

I would suggest looking at http://www.boardlady.com/repairmenu.htm
She seems to be the repair guru... however whenever I have had to repair anything, I have had a look at this, decided that it looks really complex and just thrown a lot of dr ding at the problem, with godd (but not very pretty) results!!

I was always lead to believe if the area around the damage goes soft the foam may have taken on water or been crushed (Or both) and would need drying out before any repair occurs otherwise can lead to delamination later on. http://www.boardlady.com/ has lots of information on repairs. May be worth having a 3-4" crack repaired professionally as is a pretty big crack. Hopefully, will be a nice simple fix though, Good luck.

haha cheers guys. I will check out the boardlady first.... and then if like you I feel it looks to complicated I'll either Dr Ding it or go proffesional repair. Though I suspect that a repairer will take one look at it laugh their a**e off and suggest the number of repairs requires outweighed the board value.

cheers,

I had a look at the boardlady site and it does look complicated so I got the number of Wet n Dry from my local shop but at pushing £60 for the carriage of the board plus repair I think that route is looking like costing more than the board is worth... Going to have a proper look at doing it myself now and if it gets complicated its an ugly Dr dingaling job for me.
