Organising a Event 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 5
With such a great/safe location in west k it seems a shame that there are not many events orgnaised here.

me and nick (that slacker who thinks he a the lake warden) a long distance race/freeride, to Point of Aire or somewhere near.

how do we go about orgnaising such an event? and is there any interest.

I think that the problem is the fact that things may be organised but the wind may not show... I tried to see if anyone would like to do a hi-ho to wales on a suitable tide.... there was loads of interest, but perhaps it is just the flexibility that is required to get the best wind would require some last minute planning.... It is a good idea though! HEAR HEAR!

I think you'd get plenty of interest (if the wind showed) I think the other issue might be insurance/backup and all the other stuff that goes with an "organised" event.

Have to aggree that it would be a great idea though maybe a nightmare organising with regards to back up / insurance etc as if it is an officialy organised event you would have to provide safety cover at the least. It may be worth having a chat with someone like Guy Cribb as he has just done a big run along the coast down south. Also worth a chat with the local R N L I as a donation might cover their costs ??

when discussing the hi-ho plan, the issue of safety was one that was raised, i.e we would need a couple of ribs to accompany to see that all participants were safe, and to cover things like kit breakages. It may not be required but I think it would be daft not to have it to hand... not so sure that insurance would be a problem, perhaps signing a disclaimer is more likely!
There is also the problem that when the conditions are good to have a last minute event, it is likely to be in the week when not many people can duck out of work..
I think I might just do the hi-ho with a bunch of idiots who are willing to chance the crossing spur of the moment, perhaps giving the lifeboat a phone call.. (but dont tell my wife I said that! ) Anyone got any better ideas?
I reckon essentially the problem is that windsurfing is not a team sport, so we are not used to structuring things, we are more likely to turn up and blast around independently for a few hours and then go home.....

Slim - I'd be up for the hiho idea as long as you look out for each other and are decent sailors (and pick the right conditions - I think cribby's run down the south coast was almost a dead run and F6-7 - if you could get F4-5 and a beamish reach that would be perfect)

For the organised event how about getting a demo of some of the new longboards like the kona. I know the importers have a demo fleet and are keen to encourage one design racing. If you could organise that along side the other stuff at least you've got a light wind option - that's what the longboards are supposed to be for
