Mui Ne 17 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
I used to Windsurf up at West Kirby and teach with Stu. I moved into Kiting and have not really looked back. However in the past 2 years I haven't kited much at all. This is due to moving to Manchester, work, exams, girlfriend, the usual excuses.

Anyway I have just handed in my notice at my current job to move firms. Have to work my notice but with very little to do, hence the post!!

Before handing in my notice I went out to Mui Ne, Vietnam to kite for two weeks as a precursor to the season. (New years resolution - Going to kite more!)

Mui Ne is a very nice kiting and windsurfing destination on the South China sea. I picked up a Boards mag the other day and both Boards and Kiteworld have previewed the place so I won't go into vast detail.

Quick review - Mui Ne is bloody cheap. Talking £3 for a starter, meal and beers for two. We stayed in one of the nicest hotels on the beach, pool, air con, mini bar, sky etc etc for £16 per night. Rooms for £3 if you are skint just up the road.

Wind usually blows but there was a three week lul just before we were over there. We caught the tail end and for the first week we got mostly 16 m kite weather, 8.5m windsurf weather. Second week better and 9 m kites, 5 m windsurf sails. Point to note would be that safety isn't a massive priority. With the wind often cross shore it can mean a long swim if you dump out back. The five centres on the beach have 2 jet skis between them but due to long term feuds I never saw anyone rescued in two weeks. Enjoy that mile swim!!!!

Anyway, I would definately recommend Mui Ne and if you are kiting go to the Irish owned centre, C2 Sky kiting and if you windsurf head for Jibes.

Must dash, will post again shortly about Cape Verde. Old man went to buy a place over there and came back saying that he would never buy on that barren windy rock. Said it blew gale force 5 to 8 all week. Sounds good to me.

Cheers

Mark
