Could anyone advise me on intermediate board selection for inland waters. I can plane ,get in the harness , beach start,( fall off alot !but am fairly fit so don't mind ) .The larggest sal I own at present is 6 m but intend to buy larger as I am 14 stone and the winds at Draycote are rarely strong enough to get me going on my tug.

I had intended to but a second hand Techno 283 but was advised against this due to the delicate nose and the number of impending collisions I am likely to have with this point. It was suggested that a Bic Astro Rock ( latest model the better) would be an ideal starting point, it being robust etc ( amd me being a bit reckless) .

I would appreciate anyviews and suggestions on this, and also any suggested webb sites I may look for second hand kit.

Regards All

Phil T

My advice is don't buy a BIC. Especially not an old one!

try having a go on ebay.co.uk, there's usually some cheap stuff - can get a bit frustrating though, especially if you've only got a slow internet connection.

Also Loot.com, and or the loot weekly paper.

Boardwise in Cannock have mountains of second hand gear too. Boardwise.co.uk.

nothing wrong with bic, the board must of learnt on back in the early 80's and nineties. Everything is cheap for a reason but are you going to be thrashing your board around in 10ft swell/ beach breaks! If it is for the lake then all the makes are strong enough. I recommend set your price limited and then go bargining - try the local shops as it is always best to see what you are buying second hand. However the larger shops often have a bigger choice in colours!!!

Good Luck and see you on the water!
