crossover sail recommendations anyone? 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 1
I'm considering buying a 2nd sail, size somewhere between 5.2-5.7

from what i've read I should be looking at getting a crossover sail as I want to be able to go out both on the lake and on the sea (eventually !).

Does anyone have any recommendations for sails of this type that aren't gonna break the bank?

Thanks

bear in mind I'm a lightweight with not much strength!

is a North Duke or a Neil Pryde _expression_ any good?

Thanks again

I like my 5.2 _expression_. Feels light and powerful but can depower when necessary. However, I also like my severne S2 5.8, however this has a good amount of pre-shape so will not depower fully, which I personally prefer. All depends on what feel you want. Can you try any sails before you buy them? Do you have any other sails you want a similar feel to?

just buying my first kit really so have only used the sails with the hire equipment. have a 4.5 tush storm for starters but want something a little bigger as well.

just looking for a good all-rounder that is not gonna be too bulky or difficult to control but will last a while.

Think best thing would be to find a used sail that rigs on your mast and boom then. If you got another storm then the two sails would feel similar, but if you can get a sail at the right price, there is no sense in passing it up for a more expensive one just because they are the same model. Definately bargains out there as my _expression_ was £60 used and I have used it for 2 more seasons

Hi Deb,
Just be carefull with the term crossover Different crossovers can be wave/free_style_ freeride/free_style_ wave/freeride Uncle Tom Cobbly and all!
If you are looking for a second sail with you first being 4.5 think how much you've improved since you started what do you weigh ( personal I know but essentially the bigger you are the larger the sail you can handle easily My friend Dawn is about 7st dripping wet can handle a 6.5 easily. ) and what you budget is. You're going to have catapults if you are just getting to grips with planing and so something with a bit of reinforcement isn't a bad idea. Kahuna has suggested the _expression_ but also in the NP range look at the Excess. What about a 5.5 Storm pretty tough and you already know how they sail. Check the usual suspects Robin Hood Boardwise etc. and ebay where you can get some good bargains, ( Windsurfers are generally pretty honest about gear ) and check out www.boards.co.uk for some of their sail reviews. At the end of the day the only way you will ever find out if a sail suits you is by riding it over a period of time, some you win some you lose, but have fun whilst you're doing it. Good Luck
