mast extensions/bases 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 1
Sorry me again

hopefully my final question for a bit!

Is it possible to get a mast extension that starts at 0?

4.5 tush storm luff 3.90 on a 400 mast so no extension needed, so can I buy an extension that will sit at 0 and then that gives me the option of upgrading to a larger sail without buying anymore kit, or do i have a buy a mast _base_ and then buy a mast extension for a larger sail?

honestly thats my last question.

thanks for all the help
x

Hi again.
Ideally, you will need to get an extension. There are 3 components in total, (1) the deck plate (screws into to mast track on your board) (2) the mast _base_ (the part that slots onto the deck plate & has the pulley wheels for your down haul rope) (3) the extension.

If you have got an extension as yet, your better getting an extension that has the mast _base_ attached permanently as you can make it shorter. Robinhood Water sports (www.roho.co.uk) have a Radz 15cm, 30cm or 45cm extension with built-in mast _base_ for £25 and a deck plate for £12.

If you dont use an extension in your mast, you could damage it, as to shorter length inside the mast puts a lot of load in one spot, the load is spread with an extension.

Hope that all makes sense!!!

Cheers

P.S. Dont worry about asking questions, soon you'll be blasting like a good'n.

Thanks mark

that makes sense I think....its all so much easier when you hire equipment tee hee.

mast extension with attached mast _base_ is best bet then even if it makes mast slightly too big for sail.

I can't find that mast extension you mention on the roho website though.

Soz, its surfstore not roho. Heres the _link_:
http://www.surfstore.co.uk/acatalog/Mast_extensions___base_s__uj_s_etc.html

The mast wont be to long as you use the "adjustable head" on your sail, Its the buckle type thing at the top of the luff tube, the mast will stick out by 10cm to make it 390cm.
Cheers
