A complimentary sport to windsurfing is surfing, the advantages are that you don't carry around that much, just one surfboard, and also when you are getting rumbled around by the waves there isn't a 4m long pole looking to smack you on the head. Before anyone suggest that surfing is for young people, just tke time to check out some of the regular who surf on anglesey, armed with longboards they get long rides that i dream of! so please don't be put off my any macho image bollocks which comes with surfing, just think when there is no wind then there is no need to be bummed, you can just get out your surfboard, even if you don't use it very much it does wonders for your image.

This is VERY true!! I started surfing last year in Nequay and it helped my main event progress that much quicker - great idea to bring a surf board for those tidal waves, although having not been around WK that long yet, I don't know when these"ideal" conditions are - any know? Cross breeding should not be frowned upon!

Sorry Cyborg but you'll be waiting a very, very long time to learn to surf in WK, there is no good swell around here. If you could sink Ireland dig out the Dee Estuary and fix in a reef at the end of Hoylake then you might be in with a chance. Your best bet is a ferry to the East coast of Ireland. A trip on the M5 down to North Devon or going over to Newcastle way. At a push north Wales has a bit of windchop every now and then but your better off with a sail I would have thought.

I'm sure somebody once told me that Rhosneigr was home to the first Surfers Club in the UK

Anybody know if that was true or B.S.

I've also heard it's possible around Hell's Mouth - steve should know though

Thanks Steve - you're right, and I'm off to Nequay again in April to surf - Reef Surf School in Nequay have a great deal around that time of year for 3 days tuition and 3 days board for 49 quid! costs more in petrol to get there!

Hells mouth can get some good surf, but not too often and usually during the week( which is no problem for bert and ernie who must have the best set of teeth and eyes in the north west).

Go to www.abersoch.co.uk and check out the wether page which gives links to a web cam and picture galleries, etc, which shows some classic days.
