Hello all, I am newly registered to this site. I am involved with the design of a new website aimed at performance sailing, currently based around three core sports: Skiff sailing, Windsurfing and kite surfing. The site is hoped to become a kind of information centre, with links to relevant sites and information pages about each of the disciplines. The idea is still in its infancy but i would like to know if anybody has any advice or comments to offer. I will read them, I promise! Please be aware that the reasons behind the creation of the site are not to create another internet based business that is there purely to sell products to people who like to look the part but have no intention of actually contributing anything to the sport. It is a celebration of the sports featured within it.

As i said, please hurl abuse, advice, comments whatever at me so that we can make the site something to be proud of!

I can only offer some advice on the site 'engine' aspects - the code - but it sounds like you've got that covered so I won't waste my breath !

What's the domain name or are you still looking ?

Have you got hosting etc sorted ?

I could make some observations aout the way people use the site but I'd be better doing that in a private message so's I don't offend anyone ! not that I should as the 'useability' is my fault not theirs anyway.

we are intending to use php _script_ing (i am learning that all now, whilst revising for my second year uni exams..!)

i hope to put together a short piece about the design behind each of the disciplines - can anybody suggest good information sources on this, the more technical side of things? i understand the concepts of sail design but some specialist info from a windsurfing angle would probably make my efforts more credible!

out of interest, bert, did you write the code yourself or use some kind of editing software? because if there is a decent editing program that i could use then it would make things a lot easier..!
