Well it had to happen sooner or later, but it looks like the restrictions have finally been decided on.

In true council style no feedback has been asked from any of the kiters, but instead been decided on by a couple of jobs worths with little or nothing else to do, plucking random crap of websites and calling it research.

The restrictions are going to be seasonal, and basically mean that nobody is to kite on the righthand side of an imaginary line from the car park to Little Eye. This was decided on from a report from a twitcher that two bird species numbers were declining, and that it was probably down to the kiters flying there "giant birds of prey". Incidentally, this report was full of inconstistencies, such as a record that said there were no birds on one particular day, but they were later scared of by a kiter!!?? Huh? The study says there were 7 incidents when the birds were scared of by kiters (over 6 months), which totalled a huge 10%.

The new "zone" is going to be in deeper water (directly out from the lake wall), and as we all know, kiters go downwind a lot when they are first learning.

Now, in a W/SW wind that means any kiter on a big tide going downwind is going to hit the lake wall. Great. Call an ambulance.

In a N/NW wind any kiter going downwind is going to end up well out of their depth somewhere in the moorings. Great. Call the lifeboat.

In a S wind, any kiter going downwind will end up in the "banned" area. Great. Call the voluntary bird wardens.

Now, not that any of us kiters know any better (we've only got about 5 million years experience between us of the area) but isn't it a little strange how none of us were spoken to about it? Just for the record, I spoke to "Adam" the head jobs worth, sorry, ranger about meeting up with some kiters on numerous occasions, but he was not interested. To busy dreaming up half baked ideas no doubt.

Dickheads.

Do these people not know who pays their wages. Have we not got some one we can petition myther about this? These "rules" are obviously going to get "broken" very quickly, what are they going to do then, ban kiting completely? One of the lads I work with is a twitcher, he admits that there are significant minority of "twitcher terrorists" who would like to see all activities (kites, windsurfing, horses, walkers....) banned so that our beloved feathered freinds are not bothered. Birds? chuck 'em on the BBQ.

It is my understanding that the council can only regulate where crafts can enter the water when crossing their land (the beach is their land) so once you are on the water or even in it then because it is navigable (10cm is navigable to kite surfer) they can not restrict where you sail. I guess it is a guideline if you break it then they will restrict where you launch.

incidently if they are forcing you to sail in this area are they going to improve or even provide a suitable launch point? i don't think climbing over the rocks is suitable to a beginner....

This is ridiculous!!

I have just parted with another wad of cash, to now be told that I can't use the shallow waters at west kirby to learn! I really hope the last comment in this forum is true - regards we're ok when in the water.

Oi Stu! Don't you work at west kirby, teaching kite surfing! Well aren't you employed via the council at the marine lake! surely this "ban" doesn't add up!

Very similar signatures? Could RumourBoys identity be similar to that of the cookie monster? Does Rumourboy speak to the cookie monster on a daily basis?

Is RumourBoy none other than the Cookie Monster??!!
