The fact that the lake stank last night...... was out on the tide with Dave.. when we came back onto the lake both of us noticed that the lake frankly smelt of sewage I only sailed on the lake for about half an hour after this as it just smelt manky.

Yep Slim I agree with you the smell was awful on the lake, manky very manky even worse than my wetsuit boots!

I noticed it as well - but only when Ernie was there - I thought the two were related but he'd gone home by that time.....

Actually I also noticed 'plumes' of black shite in the water I think people had been disturbing the bottom and the smell was definitely that of anaerobic decay from the mud.

If you were really lucky you might have plugs of it inthe end of your boom or mast - go and smell them today and you'll get a delightful reminder... remember to clean them before you try and sell them !

More seriously tho' I noticed the smell too particularly at the south end of the lake - but maybe that's just because that's the end I tend to try tricks (one tack sailor, appauling I know) and end up in the drink !

Maybe those SAS guys brought up a load of Southern waste and dumped it for us poor northerners to suffer last week.

...or may it's just weeks of hot calm weather allowing some luverly bacteria to really grow big....

I noticed that today, smelled more like the shite you get at the bottom of a garden pond than real shite - hopefully nothing too sinister, like mentioned just lots of bugs and decaying stuff. I have to admit I made a more concerted effort to keep me gob shut when going in today. didnt detract from a top couple of days sailing tho !
