My first board was an Echo. 298cm long. 138L. I got it at the stage where I was looking to plane and use the footstraps.
I think it was a very good board for that.
It has sharpish rails and a flat bottom. It is controllable and reasonably fast when planing.
It an easily take a 7.5m sail.
I used it with a straighter G10 36cm fin, which worked well with 6m and 7.5m.
Within 3-4 sessions I was blasting up and down West Kirby marine lake with a big grin on my face.
It was quite easy to tack and to start to learn to carve gybe.
Although I first started to do proper carve gybes when I got a smaller board.
