OK, I know I am IT illiterate, but does anyone use the chat facility , and if so how does it work?

Its really really really new (yesterday)



You click Chat in the menu on the left - then you have to agree to your machine downloading an '_applet_' (like a mini program) - once thats done you should get a screen about where you're reading now with a big box on the left a smaller one on the right and a text entry line on the bottom. Your 'nickname' or name in the chat window should be your username or your username with a number after it if someone else is using yours (not likely in your case !? - regular in mine)

The smaller box on the right should contain your username and the names of all others on the same channel (#iwindsurf - call it a room if you like) If there's only your name, your talking to yourself !!

Type stuff in the text entry line and it appears in the big box above on the computers of all those people in the box on the right ! They can type stuff in and it'll appear on everyones screen and you all have a chat



If you double click one of the names in the box on the right you'll get a second smaller pop up box with a text area and a text input line. Write text in here and it appears only for the person you double clicked - like a private conversation.

As stated elsewhere it doesn't work from inside company firewalls. I think Ernie and I will try and be around some time most evenings.

One of the things we are going to do is to organise specific times when people should logon to chat (and expect others to be there).



First thoughts are certainly after every windy day (but I guess we need to to specifiy a time)....and maybe at other regular internvals



...of course nothing is stopping people arranging to use it independent of any iWindsurf agreed times.
