Wind ! 16 Years, 10 Months ago Karma: 21
Well due to the lack of useful wind lately and none forcast for the near future I had a quick look at Socotra again and it's back there for the summer, constant 20-30 kts now till September !
This place has got to be near the top of my list of must visit soon spots.
Just wish Club Mistral would set up a few clubs over there and Yemen airways had a direct flight from Liverpool/Manchester.

Another great spot which I was lucky enough (and paid to go) was 4 weeks in the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. The islands are about 5000km west of Darwin in Australia and the place is paradise. The wind constantly blows 24/7 for 9 months of the year and the tidal lagoon enables two 6 hour sessions a day of sailing in the most incredible, warm, and flatest water you'll ever encounter. Under the surface you'll encounter reef sharks (a few tiger sharks further north - where we went snorkelling but thats another story) turtles, rays and all sorts of fish in the reefs. The West Island also boasts one of Australias finest waves, a monstrous left hander, that I never saw at less than logo high and near perfect the whole time.

To get there you'll need a flight to Perth (£750), a flight to Cocos (via Christmas Island - £900), accommodation from £300 a week to £700 for the nice Indonesian style houses we had, a car to get you round £100 a week, plus your excess bill, but its worth every penny!

Happy days...

I suggested Socotra to the wife as a honeymoon prospect but apparently hurricanes and somali pirates were seen as a downside....:_blink_: It was worth a try though!!

Oh come on slim, don't sit in the box and think!!

It's not somali pirates, it's a very realistic interpretation of Pirates of the Carribean (which one out of the 3 I will leave up to you)..

It's like being in the movie!!!! There sorted, send me a post card!! I'm going camping in the north east of england beginning of July!! God bless weddings

The weather is a set of all the phenomena occurring in a given atmosphere at a given time. Weather phenomena lie in the hydrosphere and troposphere.
