What is the right size sail for a 2.77m mistral? 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi,
I've just bought a mistral screamer having windsurfed for only one season on a much longer board.
The frustrating thing is I can't seem to get enough power in the sail and the board sinks in conditions when other windsurfers are not having any trouble at all (11 knott winds).

I wonder if the problem is with the sail. Does anyone know what sort of sail should be used for a mistral screamer?

Thanks
Ed

There is no right size sail Ed. 2.77 isn't much to go on but I'm guessing it's 103l if it's an older board. it will also be narrow 56cm.
If it's sinking on you I guess you're like me no lightweight (85kg) and therefore you are talking planing conditions just to get up and going.
Everyone is different it all depends on
#Your skill level.
#Your weight.
#Your strength.
#How mad you are.
As a VERY general guide
I have a 103 Mistral Naish it needs 14-15kt winds with a 7/7.5m sail, to get up and off. It will work better in 15-25kt with smaller sail probably down to 5.5. Bigger winds it will handle but it will start to become a handfull and then it depends on how good you are and things like water conditions (wave size and direction)
Waterstarts become a must as the narrowness/length start making uphauling a pain.
